MEOW is a volunteer organization.

Volunteer — ... is someone who serves in a community primarily because they choose to do so.

Our MEOW organization is like a community. We share, trade, swap patterns, techniques and laughs. At the Board Meeting on April 28, a discussion was had about volunteering in regard to our MEOW organization and when we did a bit of analysis…. Less than 20% of 350 members participate when we ask for volunteers.

Looking at the community service information in our newsletter, the amount of time, material, labor and energy volunteered for community outreach from each of you within our membership is phenomenal! Yet, when asked for volunteers to serve on the board, be an Area Group Leader, man the booth at Sew Expo in Puyallup, or fair booths etc., members run for the hills and hide!

This organization is about sharing, fun and participating. There is always a need for volunteers for the small things as well as the big things. What happens to our MEOW organization when we don’t have volunteers… no board, no area group leaders or groups disband due to lack of interest and volunteer help, no expo or fair booths to share our organization, bottom line.. we don’t have an organization!!!

Are you a part of this community? Do you volunteer? If you do volunteer your time and energy.. THANK YOU, if you haven’t had an opportunity to volunteer, please take a moment and think about volunteering for something small in your MEOW organization. Don’t be scared or intimidated!!! Don’t feel you have nothing to offer!!! Start small, ask your area group leader if there is something you can do to help them?? EVERYONE IS BUSY… it’s a given.. but a few hours a month will benefit your MEOW organization SEW much.

Thanks for listening to a MEOW volunteer.
